Evil Dead: Bruce Campbell

“From this point forward, they kind of have to stand on their own,” Campbell said. “Which is fine. And liberating. You could have different heroes, different heroines in this case. This one’s gonna be a little more dynamic… We just want to keep the series current. And the mantra, really, is that our heroes and heroines are just regular people. That’s what we’re going to continue.”

The news by itself shouldn’t be too surprising as no popular movie franchise brand stays dead for long. But with an ambiguous title like “Evil Dead Now,” it’s unclear whether the film is a full-fledged reboot or whether it is set in one of the multiple timelines of the previous films...

The Wretched Review:

The horror genre is a brilliant area to explore everything from real-world problems such as suffering through a divorce as a teenager to diving into the large variety of folklore that the United States have based upon, but the problem with many genre outings is they tend to focus on the same handful of evil spirits rather than looking for a unique angle. But in IFC Midnight’s latest horror effort,

Gretel & Hansel

Gretel & Hansel

Although its most obvious source of inspiration is the Grimm Brothers’ fairy tale, Gretel & Hansels storybook slow burner also takes plenty of cues from other movies in the horror genre.

Gretel & Hansel follows two siblings in their attempt to survive in the woods. Gretel (Sophia Lillis) is forced to act as a surrogate mother figure to her younger brother Hansel (Samuel Leakey). When they come upon Holda’s (Alice Krige) overly lavish home, the witch tries to tempt Gretel down a different, darker path.

Gretel & Hansel follows the beats of the original fairy tale quite closely. Director Oz Perkins uses careful lingering shots to convey the darker themes broached in this horror reimagining. With its slow burn bent, Gretel & Hansel joins the annals of folk horror, pulling from a number...

Dracula From the Sherlock Creators?

Dracula From the Sherlock Creators?

Bram Stoker’s Dracula was not an instant hit in 1897 when it was first published, despite positive reviews. But the figure of the vampire himself has since become a cultural figure with a status few others have achieved. Consequently, there have been an enormous amount of stage and screen adaptations of the Dracula novel, or featuring the character throughout the 20th century and into the 21st.

And now, Sherlock creators Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss have made their own adaptation of Stoker’s novel, starring Claes Bang as the eponymous bloodsucker. It got us wondering what kind of Dracula we might be in for this time...

IT Chapter Two

It had been promised in the past that IT Chapter Two was going to feature perhaps the bloodiest scene in horror movie history. The cast and director Andy Muschietti backed that up, and then some, during this year’s ScareDiego event at San Diego Comic-Con. Jessica Chastain pushed for the scene to be “Carrie on Steroids,” which resulted in a record-setting amount of blood, to the tune of 4,500 gallons.

Jessica Chastain, James McAvoy, Bill Hader and the rest of the adult version of The Losers Club were on hand at ScareDiego for the panel, which was moderated by Conan O’Brien. Andy Muschietti and Chastain opened up the panel by making the 4,500 gallons of blood reveal. While the studio hasn’t confirmed if that number is accurate, Muschietti says it’s a world record, which is pretty impressive...

John Carpenter’s scrapped Creature From the Black Lagoon revealed?

Back in the early 90’s master horror director John Carpenter (The Thing, Halloween, They Live) was developing a remake of 1954’s Creature from the Black Lagoon for Universal Pictures. He had make-up effects artist Rick Baker update the original Milicent Patrick design of the creature in several maquettes, one of which may have just been revealed on Carpenter’s mantle during a video interview with Variety. You can see a full-body view of the Gill-man in the video at Variety.

Fear The Walking Dead Season 5

This Fear The Walking Dead review is spoiler-free.

Fear The Walking Dead Season 5 Episode 1

I’ll admit, after last season’s disappointing finale, I approached this new season of Fear The Walking Dead with a fair bit of trepidation. As viewers know, Season 4 was meant as a course correction for the show as new talent was brought in on both sides of the camera. Out was original showrunner Dave Erickson, Fear’s steward since day one. Also out were show mainstays Kim Dickens and Frank Dillane, whose Madison and Nick Clarke were killed off...

The Walking Dead Season 10

The Walking Dead apparently doesn’t need Rick Grimes to survive AMC’s apocalyptic ax. It’s doing well enough on its own, according to the network, as evidenced by the existence of season 10.

The renewal should quiet skeptics who have been wondering since the beginning of season 9 whether the show still has the legs to shamble on. It’s no secret that the last few years have been rough for The Walking Dead in terms of viewership. After the show posted its weakest ratings for a season premiere since season 2, with only 9.36 million viewers watching the season 9 opener, the viewership only continued to decline over the weeks, falling to 4.79 million during episode 7 before a slight improvement during the midseason finale, which posted 5.09 million viewers. The season finale scored 5...
