The beginning of the summer season is exploring playtime in some twisted ways. The return of Woody, Buzz and the gang in Toy Story 4 is an outlier to the vengeance of Chucky in the Child’s Play remake and the Conjuring universe’s own Annabelle Comes Home.
Ahead of the next Annabelle release, you can immerse yourself in the terrifying doll’s next location: locked away in an artifact room in the Warren’s home. Check out the 360 experience compatible with VR headsets, to click through on your desktop or move around with your mobile device. Give it a watch… if you dare:
Anyone jump out of their seats? The immersive experience simulates a scene in the film that was teased in the Annabelle trailer where Judy Warren’s babysitter Mary Ellen (played by Katie Sarife) goes down into The Warren Artifact Room. Annabelle makes a brief appearance in her encasement before disappearing from it and causing a commotion among all the other objects in the room. She swiftly appears back on the rocking chair before the experience concludes.
Once Annabelle is set loose and summons up the spirits in the artifacts, they start to haunt 10-year-old Judy (played by Mckenna Grace) and her young friends. Judy’s Demonologist parents much then use their expertise to combat them.
The experience from Warner Bros Pictures is a clever way for fans of the franchise to feel the nerves and anxiety of watching Annabelle mysteriously leave her glass prison and wreak havoc on our senses before going out to see the movie in theaters in June.
Annabelle Comes Home will mark the first directorial effort of Gary Dauberman, who has been the screenwriter for all the other movies about the doll so far. Dauberman also penned the scripts for 2017’s IT and 2018’s The Nun. The filmmakers has said he is aiming to play around with expectations and misdirect the audience, as James Wan has when he started the franchise back in 2014.
Annabelle Comes Home follows the recent success of The Curse of La Llorona in April of $121 million worldwide and the $365 million from The Nun back in the fall. The Annabelle franchise itself has earned over $563 million worldwide between its two movies thus far.
